In-Office Teeth Whitening
As the years go by, everyone’s teeth eventually begin to yellow and lose their pearly white sheen. This is a natural part of aging, but smoking, beverages like red wine and coffee, and even certain medications can speed up the process.
Have your teeth lost their luster? At Jen Kim: Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer professional teeth whitening right here in our Kirkland dentist office to give you back your beautiful smile. The process only takes about an hour and then you are free to continue on with your day – although you may find yourself smiling more than usual!
How Boost Teeth Whitening Works
If you’re interested in professional teeth whitening, call our office to schedule an appointment. Dr. Kim will examine your teeth, discuss the causes of discoloration, and work with you to create a plan to not just whiten your teeth, but also maintain your stunning new shade.
When you are ready to proceed with your whitening treatment, we will start by cleaning your teeth to make sure no plaque or tartar remains and then Dr. Kim or a qualified member of our team will brush the whitening gel onto your teeth, taking care to avoid your gums, lips, and other tissues. As the gel sits on your teeth, a special light is shined into your mouth that activates the whitening agent in the gel. After 15 minutes, the gel is removed and fresh product is applied. The entire whitening process consists of three 15-minute sessions, which are performed back to back.
Boost teeth whitening is safe for most people – even those with sensitive teeth. The product contains desensitizing agents that allow your teeth to tolerate the whitening process. You will also be monitored the entire time the gel is on your teeth, and if you feel any discomfort, let us know so we can assess your progress and help you decide whether to continue with the treatment.
Professional Teeth Whitening vs. Over-the-Counter Treatments
Many patients ask about the over-the-counter whitening products available in grocery and drug stores. These kits all have one major flaw; because they are cheaply produced in large quantities, they are designed to be “one size fits all.” The reality is that when it comes to smiles and teeth, everyone is completely unique, which means that “one size fits all” actually translates to “one size fits none.”
The lack of customization also leads to a number of other problems. Because the trays are not customized, they may not fit properly, meaning you are likely to get gel on your teeth and gums, which can be uncomfortable and detrimental to the health of these sensitive tissues. The products are also a much lower concentration than professional teeth whitening products, which means that you have to use the product for a very long time to get noticeable results. Often, the results with over-the-counter products are uneven and difficult to maintain without resorting to constant whitening treatments.
For the best teeth whitening results, stick with professional teeth whitening treatments where the product is applied by your own dentist and your progress is carefully monitored by trusted dental professionals.
