- Personalized dentistry to promote healthy and beautiful smiles for patients of all ages.
At Jen Kim: Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we love treating children and consider it a privilege to be a part of their healthcare. The joy of seeing kids develop good habits that will serve them well throughout their lives is a major part of why we do what we do.
We understand that children have different dental needs than adults because their little mouths are constantly growing and developing. We can provide care for every stage of your child’s life, from the day they cut that first tooth to the days when those teeth are replaced by permanent teeth and beyond.
Much of pediatric dentistry is preventive care. Regular examinations and cleanings will help keep your kids’ teeth in great shape. Our hygienists are gentle, thorough, and friendly and enjoy working with children. We teach you and your children how to care for little teeth at home and provide solutions for issues like thumb-sucking that are primarily unique to children.
In addition to regular cleanings and examinations, other preventive treatments we offer include fluoride treatments and sealants. Most areas, including Kirkland, have fluoridated water, but if your child drinks bottled or filtered water, he or she may not be getting enough of this important mineral. Studies have clearly shown the role that fluoride plays in preventing cavities. We will discuss your family’s habits and help you decide whether fluoride supplementation is a good choice for your children.
As your child gets older and develops permanent molars, we will also discuss sealants. Our back teeth are full of grooves, and it can be challenging for children to clean them properly. If food gets stuck in the grooves of the back teeth and is not removed promptly, bacteria and acids develop and cavities begin to form. Unfortunately, cavities in these teeth are very common in children. Sealants place a barrier between the teeth and any food particles that may not get brushed away, protecting the teeth from cavities and decay.
Getting your kids off to a great start building healthy dental habits is one of the best gifts you can ever give them. Oral health is closely tied to your body’s overall health. If your kids learn early that taking care of their body is important, chances are good that they will continue these habits into their adult years.
Dr. Kim not only enjoys seeing kids here in our Kirkland dental office, she also donates her time to help less privileged kids in the local community receive the dental care they need and deserve. She makes time to visit local schools to talk to kids about dental care and what they can do to take charge of their own dental health. Dr. Kim has also traveled to India and Kenya as a part of her church’s medical mission team to provide dental care to the people there. Her compassionate nature, skill, and desire to help others make her a one-of-a-kind dentist, and you will feel good knowing that your kids are under her care.
