Benefits of Invisalign over Traditional Braces

Invisalign Braces | Jen Kim Family & Cosmetic Dentistry

While both traditional metal braces and Invisalign can help you effectively achieve a straighter smile, there are several unique benefits Invisalign can offer. Three of the benefits are discussed in greater detail below:

No Unsightly Wires or Brackets

Probably the most obvious advantage of Invisalign over traditional braces is that Invisalign trays are clear. Many of our patients who want orthodontic treatment, especially middle-aged or older adults, are hesitant to commit to traditional braces because of the bulky metal wires. Concerns about appearance are one of the main reasons patients delay or forgo getting braces, but with Invisalign, this problem is eliminated entirely. The clear trays used in Invisalign treatments mean you won’t have to hide your smile or be embarrassed by your mouth -- allowing you to straighten your teeth without having to pause your social life.

Removable for Your Convenience

Another excellent advantage of Invisalign trays is that they are removable. Because the trays can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing, you can maintain a completely normal diet and oral hygiene routine during your orthodontic treatment. When treating with Invisalign, you do not have to avoid chewy or sticky foods, and you do not run the risk of tooth discoloration or developing increased cavities as is commonly seen with traditional braces. Just remember that Invisalign trays must be worn at least 22 hours per day to achieve the desired results.

Less Stressful Treatment

For most patients who wear traditional braces, frequent visits to the dentist or orthodontist are necessary to tighten wires and monitor treatment. Invisalign helps eliminate some of these visits and more effectively streamlines treatment. With Invisalign, several trays can be provided by a treating provider at once, meaning it may be possible to go several months between treatments. Additionally, many patients report that the force exerted on their teeth during Invisalign straightening is more subtle and less painful than with traditional metal braces.
