Starting Invisalign treatment can be an exciting moment in your life! You’ve finally decided that you're tired of living with crooked or crowded teeth, and you can’t wait to pick up your first set of Invisalign clear aligners from your Kirkland dentist office.
Once you start Invisalign treatment, the team at Jen Kim Family and Cosmetic Dentistry will support you every step of the way. But you are the one who's responsible for your day-to-day treatment, so here are a few tips for getting the most out of the process.
Wear Invisalign at Least 22 Hours a Day
Patients love straightening crooked or overlapped teeth with Invisalign in Kirkland because the clear aligners are removable. You can eat your favorite foods and brush and floss easily.
Since you can remove them, however, you may be tempted to keep your aligners out for long periods.
Resist the temptation; every moment your aligners are out of your mouth, you’re not making progress. Keeping your aligners out for long periods can start to undo the movement your teeth have made, which will extend your treatment time.
Brush and Floss before Putting Your Aligners Back In
The ability to take Invisalign out for meals is a big plus and is one reason many patients choose clear aligner therapy. Just remember to brush and floss your teeth before you put the aligners back in your mouth. This removes food particles that can get trapped under your aligners and lead to bad breath, cavities, and gum disease.
TLC for Your Invisalign Clear Aligners
Your Invisalign clear aligners need some TLC too:
- Rinse them when you take them out because plaque and saliva create a breeding ground for odor-causing bacteria.
- Don’t drink colored beverages like colas or cranberry juice while wearing your aligners to prevent staining and dulling their crystal-clear, invisible appearance.
- Soak your aligner trays daily in denture cleaner or Invisalign cleaning crystals while you brush and floss your teeth.
